Our Story

In 2016 our Professor came to Oak Harbor with his family from Japan. In need of a place to train, Professor Eli discovered a group of students in a warehouse fitness facility. A short time later Professor Flavio da Silva arrived (on visit from Okinawa) to train with his friend and student in his new home. Prompted by his professor, our professor sought an alternate location to find more students and promote greater growth.  Within a few weeks our Professor located available mat space to teach jiu jitsu in the upper level of the nearby military base's fitness center. Accompanied by a handful of committed students, dedicated to Professor Eli’s method of jiu jitsu, he founded Wakizashi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2017.

Over the course of the following year the results of deliberate practice, attentive study and successful application in competition, proved Professor Eli’s method of teaching to be effective. Gradually, the space provided on the second level floor, crowded with the volume of people joining our ranks. With collaboration of his students, Professor Eli relocated the program from the second floor of the base gym to a more suitable location more accessible to the public - to the place we now call our Dojo.

Since then and everyday, we fill our walls with friends, family and guest from all around the world. We are honored to welcome friends and guest, of all flags and affiliations, to train and join us on the mats.
