In 2016 our Professor came to Oak Harbor with his family from Japan, on military orders in need of a place to train. At the time, the only reasonable location to train was in a fitness facility located in an industrial district warehouse. For the time being this was sufficient as Professor Eli had a group of students to teach and train with. A short time later Professor Flavio da Silva, of Japan, came to see and train with his friend and student (Professor Eli) in his new home. Prompted by his Professor, Eli sought an alternate location to find more students and promote greater growth. Within a few weeks our Professor found available mat space to teach his Jiu-Jitsu in the upper level of the NASWI Fitness Center, located on the nearby military base. Followed by a handful of committed students, dedicated to Professor Eli’s method of Jiu-Jitsu, he settled in and founded Wakizashi BJJ in 2017. Over the course of the following year, with the results of competition after competition, Professor Eli’s method of teaching proved to be more and more effective and as a result, the mat space we had on that second level floor, became smaller and smaller; due to the volume of people joining our ranks. With the help of his students, Professor Eli moved the program from the second floor of the base gym to a more suitable location more accessible to the public - to a place we now call our Dojo.
Since then and everyday, we fill our walls with friends, family and guest from all around the world and are Proud and Honored to welcome friends and guest from all Flags and Affiliations into our home. We have proven that we are The Best place to train on Whidbey Island and we welcome all to come train and join us on the mats. OSS!
